October is apparently car repair month, and that means in the manual sense, not the taking-it-into the shop. The theme this time around is 'breaks.' Breaks are good. So for the good, I had to do my own, plus offer a worthy assist into replacing the break-line for my parent's van, which is an absolute legendary job considering the tools and not-so-generous positioning of the attack.
Automotive repair is fun! Dragging out the tools. Jacking up the car. Setting a nearby radio to a tried and true classic rock station. Hoist the droplights. Lay the plywood. Grab some beers and discuss the specifics with my brother.
It's a family act, and as stereotypical as one would imagine what with the bloodied knuckles, cursing, grease smears on the cheeks, and the eventual success that really feels like a job well done.
The gender-specific aspect often gets lost on me (I end up feeling more smart, than manly) but the family aspect never does. These are things we can do together. And it is good.
