Bruce has progressed all his life through physical talent, an uncommon type in an age of geniuses. His military father's insistence on non-military education forced the young man away from Space Fleet and into a mundane commercial piloting program. Bruce is at the top of his grade, but not his program—that honor goes to his underclassman rival, Leo.
Two years ago Bruce and Calvin became fast friends as neighbors in the Academy's dorms. A year of study groups later, Bruce hooked up with Pharis, his best friend's girl. The drunken fling had more repercussions than anyone could've predicted. The lovers now live together under Pharis' roof, a spacious dormitory single.
Bruce enjoys picking fights even when he knows he's wrong. He disapproves of his girlfriend's involvement with the Prom Court (their old friends) and was the one who coined their nickname—as an insult.
