Primer  —  Aftermath: 3275 - Present

Part 3: How Jensen-Almay and Apocalypse Eternal impacted the future

June 1, 3275: A system-wide armistice was called for by the Martian Federation and accepted by all major governments including those who had withdrawn. 70% of nations on the list would eventually sign the Sol-Union charter, the first unified federation of multi-world and orbital colonies in the Age of Colonization. Research of Dark Energy science was outlawed among all federal states.

The demilitarization of Union nations allowed for a renaissance of travel, artificial life/intelligence and medical sciences. 900 years later, the Sol-Union still dominates the political landscape and has left the system to greet other stars and terraform a handful of new worlds, ironically on the wings of dark energy.

The appearance of Jensen-Almay was declared a temporal echo, or dark energy anomaly, depending on the report. Neither explanation accepted the claims of life aboard the station, since it was deemed non-existent--the first phantom. The incident would later be embraced by a new religion, Dethism, as proof of the station's continued existence in a different phase of reality.

Decades after, fatal levels of dark energy radiation still clung to Venus' surface, making all but the most heavily shielded landings impossible. The planet remained abandoned for close to 500 years, the dead unburied, many automations still active. The resettlement of Venus in the 3700's was based on greed and necessity for its resources. Sterility and radiation poisoning popularized the market of Artificial Lifeforms as a hardy working-class until rebellion granted the race emancipation and their own refuge on Iapetus, Saturn.

Jensen-Almay and Apocalypse Eternal have been romanticized in history and religion, making it the one true turning point since mankind crawled out of the Second Dark Age. All current nations, policies and technology can somehow be traced back to an involvement in the deadliest war mankind had ever known. At the cost of an entire planet, humanity received a wakeup call they have never forgotten. However, tensions again brew between the Martian-based Sol-Union, their independently-minded ally, Anatali Corp, and everyone's enemy, the always-antagonistic Kingdom of Io. Whether these forces will again collide inside or out of the Sol System is an answer many governments await.
